The two major goals of the Melanoma Program are to gain important insights into molecular events that govern the biology and progression of melanoma and its host immune response, and to develop and implement novel therapies for patients with melanoma. Given these overall objectives, the specific areas of research of the Melanoma Program are:
The faculty and staff of the Melanoma Program have extensive expertise in the areas of molecular biology, immunology, and translational studies; all three being of essence to making important new inroads into this disease. The Melanoma Program also serves as a national and international center for melanoma investigations in the cooperative groups and the international research community. Furthermore, the Melanoma Program trains young investigators in the areas of melanoma biology and immunology, and important translational investigations of this malignancy.
